Oactually.com | Healing the world through genuine female pleasure
Kit of O’actually spent years in academia (she received her masters in Gender and Social Policy from the London School of Economics) before finally deciding to follow her passion of celebrating and educating women about the female orgasm, while bucking against mainstream “adult entertainment” and all that it entails.
She came to us with her original website, built after her successful Indiegogo campaign. While her overall design was solid, it lacked some pizzazz and, more importantly, she struggled to accomplish everyday tasks like posting content to various categories, create new pages and uploading new podcasts.
What was initially a straightforward website migration to our powerful platform built on the mobile-friendly Genesis framework, turned into a design and functionality upgrade as well.
Now Kit’s able to implement her ideas and update the site when she needs to and she’s got a team to call on is she gets stuck. With our ongoing maintenance she gets to focus on creating new content, knowing that regular updates and security are being taken care of.
Other custom project features:
- Design Refinement | We reviewed Kit’s existing branding and some of the website elements she wasn’t happy with as well as brought some of our own ideas to the table. Our goal was to keep the original structure and branding, but bring more life, excitement and an elegant element of sensuality to the site. We created mockups of the upgraded design to ensure that everything was on point. Some design upgrades included replacing dark, solid colors with brighter more sensual textures, an enhanced menu navigation and an updated header and footer.
- Mobile Friendly Migration | Chris built a new child theme on the Genesis framework based on our mockups. We migrated her complete website, blog + podcasts and content to the new framework. We also upgraded various website elements; content originally on the site as static images was converted to dynamic Visual Composer elements. Now the text is not only visible to search engines but can be edited and changed independent of the surrounding design and related images.
- Complete Plugin Audit and Streamline | Because so many different admins and developers had worked on Kit’s site, there were many plugins that had been installed but weren’t in use or were conflicting with each other. We reviewed all installed plugins, removed all unnecessary or poorly functioning plugins, replaced them with vetted options as needed and added a few additional plugins for optimization, security and functionality.
- Custom Blog Setup | On the original site, the blogroll and podcasts page loaded posts in a way that felt cluttered and disconcerting to the reader. We streamlined the feed and updated how all posts displayed with featured images so viewers can now browse, read and listen with ease.
“I want to shout my recommendation of Cultivar Designs from the rooftops!
As an entrepreneur who has launched a variety businesses and advised on dozens of endeavors, I can honestly say that I never imagined that working with a dev shop could get this good.
Shayna and Chris have created a uniquely effective, skilled, and supportive team. They are able to see and address problems before they arise. They not only execute my plan, but by diving deep into my business they ask the right questions and shared their wisdom and insight that made my business stronger.
I am deeply thankful for Cultivar. I had convinced myself that stress, frustration, missed deadlines, and condescension were just part of the process of working with developers. Then I met Shayna and Chris! They are the most organized, effective, knowledgeable, resourced, and delightful development team I have worked with. Particularly if you are a non-tech founder, like me, I encourage you to work with Cultivar! My only wish was that I had met them sooner.

This is embarrassing, but initially I really thought you were too good to be true. As entrepreneurs, we get pitched on this stuff a lot. I thought, “okay okay, but are you really going to behave and execute like you are saying you will?” There are so many shops who know what to say and then can’t deliver on those promises.
Instead, I’ve been delighted from the get go. I particularly feel like I can bring my neurosis… This is actually BIG. Being able to say, “I don’t think I understand?” is challenging for us founders/CEOs. And yet, I feel like that is so welcomed and understood with you.
Chris and Shayna are humans that also get tech. I feel like they get the stress of the ups and downs in entrepreneurship and that they get and appreciate that I am a human too. It’s my experience that this is oddly rare in these type of business relationships.
I have such deep trust that when they say it will be done, it will be done. Authentic enthusiasm for my company and our mission. I genuinely look forward to our calls and work together.”
Would I recommend you to a friend? 🙂 Um, YES! And I have. And I get annoyed when my friends don’t listen to me. I just want them to ditch their low energy and mistake laden tech partners and hire you already!
