Let’s cut straight to the point:
Is your website working for you
and your business?
We didn’t think so – after all, you probably wouldn’t be here if it were.
Now you’re probably feeling like you’re left picking up the slack (from your business and your developer), burning time learning to DIY, struggling just to keep up, or just burying your head in frustration.
What you’re NOT doing is focusing your time and energy on creating new content and products for your community (aka: doing what you love!)
First of all, come here. You need a hug!
(we’re huggers, by the way)
We get it. You don’t just need a website that looks great.
You need a website that helps you move your business forward.
You need a PLAN and the right RESOURCES so you can hit the ground running when your website goes live and actually GET STUFF DONE, and look and feel professional doing it!
And we’re willing to bet that what would really make your day is knowing that you have a TEAM to call on when you need to get something done that’s just not in your (or your VA’s) area of expertise.
Not just a developer who will do exactly what you ask and nothing more. And definitely not someone who’s just going to patch together a quick solution, slowly adding to a tangle of code-turned-website-meltdown-waiting-to-happen.
But someone who genuinely cares about you and your business! Someone who will think about your needs from a holistic point of view and offer up advice, ideas and strategy tips to help you make the most of your effort and your money.
We can help you with that.
Think of us as website cultivators with a green thumb for growing digital business solutions, packed with everything you need for big, lush, fruitful online presence.
Together, we’re Cultivar Designs.

I love web design and development and I have been working with WordPress since it’s early conception. I’ve worked for many startups in different positions, from graphic designer to web developer. After more than 20 years of web experience, having mastered a wide variety of development and business skills in many different environments, I decided to start Cultivar Designs.
I’ve experienced the ups and downs, and trials and tribulations of the startup world and along the way have gathered useful strategies and procedures to help others ensure success with their projects.
My love is for the environment, the ocean and the beauty and complexity that is our universe. In my free time I enjoy biking and beach time. I was a frequent surfer when I lived in California and still love to catch some waves when I can. I’m fascinated by permaculture and enjoy savoring delicious Florida-grown tropical fruit. I have a weak spot for video games and enjoy traveling, cinematic adventures, live music, interactive exhibits, pyrotechnics and various odds and bits of life.
Still curious to know more?
I was lucky enough to have had an advanced personal computer in my home ever since the first ones hit the market (Take that Generation Y!). While other kids played on cartridge consoles, I was downloading games and music from the early dial-up internet and watched the internet grow to what it is now. I love building websites because it requires a broad spectrum of talents and knowledge to create something that brings visual appeal, functionality and inspiration together. You can unleash unlimited creativity with the medium.
I’ve always have had a passion for entrepreneurship and I’m not shy about working hard. I’ve been through many business ventures and startups and have learned from personal hard-knocks as well as from the success and failures of others first hand.
Following a tour in Afghanistan with the Air Force and time in the Air Force reserves, I switched gears back to my love of design. I branded a successful South Florida Cuban coffee company and then moved west to spend time in Cali surfing and working for various development and social media + marketing firms.
That’s when I became focused on WordPress and an early adopter of responsive design (responsive design = that magic that makes your site transition seamlessly from full screen to any mobile device or tablet).
But, after a few years on the west coast, Florida was calling me back…and that’s when I met Shayna and brought my focus back to WordPress.
I taught Shayna the tools and the methods I used to build websites for my past ventures, and learned from her skills in project management and business. Working together, I was able to deepen my understanding of the fundamentals while expanding into new creative areas.
I’ve been working in WordPress for almost 10 years. I’ve been a compulsive organizer for far longer. While I’ve always had strong writing skills, what I really love is getting strategic, solving puzzles and finding solutions. I have a penchant for taking the technical and breaking it down so it actually makes sense to the rest of us. I love seeing the shift in someone when they go from confusion or frustration to empowerment.
I’ve seen so many creative entrepreneurs and passionate business owners struggle unnecessarily because they didn’t have a high quality, thoughtful + functional website along with the support they needed. When Chris and I met and realized how much we had in common and how well our skills complimented each other, I knew we could help!
My other loves (there are many) include creative plant-based chefery, playing guitar, piano and ukulele, singing (like ALL the time), yoga, biking, sustainable agriculture (or pretty much sustainable anything), gardening and growing food, pretty paper notebooks that only get 3/4 full before I want to start the next one, finishing stuff (the irony isn’t lost on me), fiddling with numbers (I enjoy personal finance waaayyyyy too much) and of course, my amazing fairy dogmother mini schnauzer Mia.
You want more??? Ok… but don’t say I didn’t warn you!
I was lucky enough to have access to one of the first home computers as my dad worked in the industry. Then, in the 90’s I would watch (and sometimes help) my dad build custom PC’s and networking solutions for local businesses. I would listen in fascination as he patiently answered client questions and helped them trouble shoot issues (if your computer won’t turn on, make sure it’s plugged in!). He expertly designed custom solutions for his clients to make technology work for their business. He taught me how to ask the right questions to make sure the solution fit their needs. He would explain how people didn’t always know how to communicate what they need so it was his job to gather all the information and put the pieces together so the final solution. Often, it was something they didn’t even realize they needed until they had it!
After initially pursuing a path in music I earned my degree in English and Creative Writing with a minor in Business.
A few years later I opened an organic boutique called Butterfly Effect and garnered a loyal following in Sarasota and found myself back in the throes of technology. On a bootstrapped budget I built my e-commerce site and blog for Butterfly Effect, learned about list building and email service providers, managed an active social media presence, and took a deep dive into content strategy and copywriting.
At the same time, I was also writing as the beauty editor for digital magazine startup, ModernHippieMag.com, and my experience provided an framework of understanding of the hows and whys of tools like editorial schedules and batch editing.
Fast forward a few more years, I met Chris while working with an organic produce buying club. Our skills (and love of organic veggies) seemed like a perfect match, and shortly thereafter we decided to launch Cultivar Designs.
